Remember When? UGA Athletics Brings a Piece of History to Columbus!
COLUMBUS, GA – June 18, 2025 – For every Georgia Bulldog fan in Columbus, mark your calendars! The Chattahoochee Valley Libraries are practically bursting with excitement to host “UGA Athletics in Your Town,” a truly special traveling exhibit straight from the University of Georgia Athletic Association archives. It’s making its way to the Columbus Public Library on Thursday, June 26th, from 11 AM to 4 PM.
Think back to those legendary moments – the roar of the crowd, the iconic plays, the heroes on the field. Now, imagine seeing the actual artifacts that tell those stories, up close and personal. This isn’t just a collection; it’s a tangible journey through over a century of Bulldog glory. We’re talking about a chance to truly connect with the history that shaped our beloved UGA sports.

Leading this fascinating expedition is none other than Jason Hasty, the Athletics History Specialist for the UGA Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library. He’ll be right there, ready to share the tales behind these incredible pieces as part of a summer tour sweeping across our great state.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to team up with The Hargrett Library,” shared Tiffany Wilson from the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries, her voice buzzing with anticipation. “Bringing this exhibit showcasing Georgia’s athletic heritage to the Chattahoochee Valley just feels right. It perfectly aligns with our goal to offer everyone easy access to discovery and new ideas, giving sports fans and families a fun, engaging experience right here in their own backyard.”

And Jason Hasty echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the exhibit’s heart: “The UGA Athletic Association archive holds over a century of UGA Athletics’ physical history. This traveling exhibit is our way of taking some of the most captivating artifacts we have and bringing them to communities all across Georgia for a genuinely fun, family-friendly event.”
This isn’t just for die-hard fans (though they’ll be in heaven!). It’s a wonderful, free, and open-to-the-public opportunity for anyone curious about the rich, storied legacy of UGA sports. Don’t let this chance slip away to touch a piece of history right here at your Columbus Public Library.
